To help parents plan stress-free escapes that keep kids happy and entertained, we’ve crunched the numbers, analysing thousands of online reviews of over 160 holiday and top attraction destinations, such as Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Universal Orlando Resort, to reveal the 100 best boredom-busting destinations around the world.

How We Built the Banish Boredom Index:

To create the Banish Boredom Index, our in-house experts began with a list of over 160 popular holiday and attraction destinations. Any locations facing closures or with an average customer rating below two stars were excluded from the analysis to ensure only viable, quality destinations were considered. And no, we didn’t just include the destinations we sell tickets for!

Our team gathered data across four key areas:

Public review ratings
Sentiment within reviews
UK search volume interest
Level of family-friendliness

The team analysed hundreds of thousands of reviews to determine the percentage from each destination that included the phrases “kids loved it” and “kids bored.” So that our data was as accurate as possible, percentages were used instead of total mentions to make it as fair as possible between destinations with different amounts of reviews.

Each destination was then given a total score out of 35, based on performance across all four categories. These scores were put together to form the final ranking, revealing which places are well-reviewed, most likely to keep kids engaged, and top-of-mind for UK families planning their next trip.

What the Data Tells Us About Boredom-Free Holidays

The Banish Boredom Index really shows what truly keeps kids entertained and where families are most likely to enjoy a screen-free, stress-free break.

Theme parks were top of the rankings

70% of the top 10 attractions are theme parks. From rollercoasters to water rides, these high-energy destinations consistently scored well for family-friendliness, positive reviews, and kid-approved experiences. And you don’t need to tell us twice… we’d always recommend a theme park for banishing boredom!

You don’t need to travel far

While the top 20 boredom-banishing holidays were evenly split between UK and international locations, the UK came out on top overall. Half of the top-ranked attractions were found close to home. The United States followed with 25%, while France, Spain, Denmark, and Indonesia also earned spots in the top 20.

Historic doesn’t mean boring!

UK landmarks like the Tower of London and Windsor Castle proved that educational, cultural days out can still spark excitement. 40% of the top 20 featured historic sites, suggesting that staycations can be just as engaging as theme park holidays abroad.
