Our guide to Ocean Free Sail to Green Island & Great Barrier Reef

Your tour starts once you have been picked up from your hotel in Cairns. Upon arriving at Marlin Marina in Cairns, the bus driver will guide you to the Reef Fleet Terminal for check-in, which begins at 7:15am, at the Ocean Free/Freedom desk. Following check-in you will board the Ocean Free.

As you step on board, you'll be welcomed with a fresh piece of fruit and a delectable Danish pastry, accompanied by a cup of tea or coffee. The Ocean Free, a 16-meter sailing schooner, will set sail from the dock at 8:00am to embark on a full-day cruise to Green Island and the Great Barrier Reef. To ensure a personalised experience with ample comfort and space, the guest count is limited to a maximum of 25 passengers.

Your journey will take you to Ocean Free's exclusive mooring on Pinnacle Reef, located just 1 kilometre offshore from Green Island. This Marine Park Reserve is protected from fishing activities and teems with an abundance of marine life. Upon arrival, you can step directly off the boat into a vibrant coral garden and partake in activities such as swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving (additional cost), all under the watchful eye of your experienced crew. Alternatively, you can simply relax and take in the surroundings.

After enjoying the morning activities, you'll savour a substantial smorgasbord lunch featuring a variety of seafood options. Transfers to Green Island are available throughout the day, providing you with the flexibility to explore the island's walking tracks, rainforest, or relax on the beach – the choice is yours. After approximately 4.5 hours of reef and island exploration, Ocean Free will depart the reef and sail back to Cairns (weather permitting). During the journey back, your attentive crew will serve snacks and a glass of wine.

You can expect to return to Cairns at approximately 5:00pm, at which point you'll meet the bus at the same pick-up point for your return transfer to your hotel.
