Our guide to La Gomera Open Top Jeep Safari
La Gomera is a small volcanic island in Spain's Canary Islands chain and is home to wild mountainous landscapes, unique flora, rolling valleys and dramatic rising cliffs. And what better way to explore this spectacular scenery than via jeep?
Your tour starts with a 90 minute ferry crossing from Los Cristianos to the port of San Sebastian which allows you time to savour the coastal views of Tenerife and even relax on the top deck.
On arrival in La Gomera, you'll journey south to the monument of Sagrado Corazón which overlooks the capital before heading towards the Garajonay National Park, an area of beautiful laurel forest punctuated with rocky vistas and crystal clear springs. Here you will also see the famous Roque de Agando volcanic chimney.
Continue through the evergreen valleys, passing through tranquil villages and rare and mysterious prehistoric forest to the mirador de Igualero and the little village of Chipude for coffee. Here you'll get to see a fascinating demonstration of the indigenous whistling language - this was how the Gomerans communicated for many centuries.
Moving on, pass through Las Hayas and La Laguna Grande before testing the jeeps capabilities by going off road!
After lunch in Las Rosas, head to Hermigua, a local beauty spot. Here, local houses back on to the steeply-rising massif, the Roque de San Pedro, while the colourful gardens are bordered by palm groves and banana plantations.
The tour then returns to San Sebastián, where there is free time to visit the last remaining historical fortifications of Columbus before returning to Los Cristianos by ferry.
