It’s all about the selfie, and New York City has plenty of picture perfect locations. If you want to let your friends know exactly where you are, check out our guide to the best places in the city to snap a selfie…
1. In front of the Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the city, and who better to photobomb your selfie than Lady Liberty? The Staten Island Ferry takes you past the iconic statue for free, but if you want to get up close enough to take some great pictures, you’ll have to visit Liberty Island. To make your photos a bit different, you could try balancing the famous statue on your hand or even lifting it in the air like a trophy. Either way, this is one you won’t want to miss!
2. In the middle of Times Square
With over 300,000 people passing through each day, Times Square is always busy. Right in the heart of Manhattan, and in the middle of all the hustle and bustle, it’s a great place to capture a snapshot of the city that never sleeps. Whether it’s in front of your favourite shop (there’s a massive M&M’s World), the huge digital billboards, or the famous glowing red steps of the TKTS booth, there are plenty of selfie worthy spots.
3. Top of the Rock
In New York, there are plenty of places you can go to get a view of the city’s impressive skyline. The Top of the Rock observation deck offers similar sky-high views to the Empire State Building. While most people tend to choose one towering attraction over the other, if you want the ESB to actually be in the background of your selfie, this is the perfect place to get the shot. We’d recommend sunset if you want to get those likes rolling in!
4. At the top of the Empire State Building
A visit to the Empire State Building is on most tourists ‘New York City bucket list’. One of the city’s most well-known landmarks, the ESB lets guests take in spectacular panoramic views of NYC from as high as the 102nd floor of the building. It even boasts that guests can see up to 80 miles away on a clear day! Whether you venture right to the top, or stay on the ground with the skyscraper towering behind you, you can’t miss the chance to take a selfie here.
5. On the Brooklyn Bridge
The iconic Brooklyn Bridge connects the Brooklyn borough to Manhattan. A walk over the 1,825-metre long suspension bridge takes about an hour (at a leisurely pace, including stopping to take photos) and is a classic New York experience that you should definitely tick off your ‘must-do’ list. Not only can you admire views of the two boroughs, but also the Statue of Liberty! Make sure you take your selfie in front of the gothic arches if you want to get the best shot.
6. At Central Park
Whether it’s a nice summers day, or a wintery snow-covered canvas, you can guarantee that at Central Park, you’ll always be able to get that perfect picture. Spanning over an incredible 842 acres, the park is enormous, so wherever you’re staying, you’ll never be too far away to make a visit. We’d recommend heading to Strawberry Fields- a 2.5-acre area of the park honouring Beatles star John Lennon. The beautiful black and white ‘Imagine’ mosaic is a great place to stop for photos too.
7. On the steps of the Met
Perfect for getting that off-guard shot, or a selfie of the world-famous museum behind you. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the largest museum in the United States and its architecture is stunning. From the steps outside you can take a great selfie with the museum front in the background. If you happen to be a fan of the Gossip Girl TV series, the Gossip Girl tour will take you here, giving you the chance to take plenty of photos just like your favourite upper east siders.
8. Flatiron Building
The Flatiron building stands out for its striking triangular shape, and will make a unique backdrop for your selfie. It’s also one of the city’s first skyscrapers, so is a good place to go if you want to take in a bit of the city’s history. Or, if you’re a movie fan, you might want to visit the building as it’s featured in countless famous movies like Godzilla and Spider Man to name just a few. The Flatiron Prow Artspace is a ground floor display that houses regular art exhibitions, making it a great place for a photo opportunity.
9. From on top of the world
