The California Academy of Sciences transforms every Thursday evening for NightLife, featuring music, cocktails, and science. The evening begins with an open bar cocktail reception and hors d’oeuvres, followed by an hour-long tour with an expert guide. Includes an in-depth look at the Living Roof, a viewing of rare gems and minerals, and the life story of Claude the albino alligator.

The hottest event on the social calendar - come find out what everyone’s talking about! The California Academy of Sciences is the only place on the planet to combine an aquarium, natural history museum, Worlds’ largest all-digital planetarium and four story rainforest under a 2.5 acre living roof.
When the lights go down, the fun begins. Every Thursday night from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, the California Academy of Sciences is transformed into a lively venue filled with music, provocative science, mingling and cocktails for visitors 21 and older.
Your NightLife VIP Tour includes:
- Express entry into the California Academy of Sciences
- A one-hour behind-the-scenes tour with a private viewing of some of the Academy's renowned gem and mineral collection, and interaction with Academy researchers
- Access to the NightLife Event
- An open bar in a reserved cocktail area prior to the tour
- VIP access to the four story Rainforests of the World exhibit
- A reserved pass for the 8:30pm Planetarium show
- Entry into NightLife
After the tour guests also get to explore the museum and all of its exhibits, enjoy world-class music, programs, and activities. Food and additional cocktails are available for purchase at this time.
There is a choice of 2 tour start times - 6.00pm or 6.45pm. The NightLife event ends at 10.00pm.
Terms and conditions
Terms and conditions for California Academy of Sciences Nightlife VIP Tour
- NightLife VIP Tour Program begins promptly at 6:00pm and starts on time without exception.
- There is a minimum age requirement of 21 years.
- NightLife VIP Tour tickets are date specific, and cannot be transferred once purchased..
Arrive at 6.00 pm and enter through the Membership entrance. Meet at the VIP check-in inside the lobby to receive your tour badge and further instructions.
The open bar is available only prior to the tour for guests’ designated time slot. Those attending the 6:45 time slot may enter the museum at 6.00pm, but must wait until 6:45 to have access to the VIP Tour area.
The rainforest closes at 7:45. Those wishing to visit that area must do so before that time.
All VIP guests have reserved seats for the 8:30 Planetarium show. Those attending the 6:45-8:15 VIP Tour should plan to head immediately to the Planetarium after the tour if they wish to see the 8:30 show.
