Complete Guide to Lightning Lanes at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida
Since 24th July 2024, Disney Genie+ at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is now Lightning Lane. And it’s not just the name that has changed, with a new system in place to offer even more flexibility and help you have the best holiday possible. Whether you choose a Disney 7-Day Magic Ticket, Disney 14-Day Magic Ticket, or one of our best value Disney Combo Tickets, here’s everything you need to know about Lightning Lanes.
There are now four ways for guests to experience attractions at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida:
- Standby Queues - These are the regular queues available to everyone with their park admission. Just turn up and queue for the advertised wait time!
- Virtual Queues - These are available at certain attractions and must be booked on the My Disney Experience app, subject to availability. They must be booked in advance but have no additional cost.
- Lightning Lane Single Pass - This allows guests to book a return time for some of the most in demand attractions at Walt Disney World Resort. These require an additional purchase on the My Disney Experience app and are subject to availability.
- Lightning Lane Multi Pass - This allows guests to book return times for most of the attractions at Walt Disney World Resort, subject to availability. These require an additional purchase on the My Disney Experience app.
So which queue option is best for you? Let’s go into more detail about what you’ll get when you purchase Lightning Lane passes to help you decide.
Lightning Lane Single Pass
Available to purchase in advance or on the day
Each of the Disney Theme Parks - Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park - has one or two attractions available with a Lightning Lane Single Pass. These are usually the newest or most in demand attractions in each park that tend to have the biggest standby queues.
Using the My Disney Experience app, you can book up to two Lightning Lane Single Passes (one per attraction) per day, per guest, selecting a return time at the time of purchase. If your admission includes Park Hopper benefits (which all our Disney Magic Tickets do!) you can select attractions across two different theme parks.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Available to purchase in advance or on the day
Most of the attractions at each Walt Disney World Resort Theme Park not available with a Lightning Lane Single Pass are available with a Lightning Lane Multi Pass instead!
At the time of purchase on the My Disney Experience app, you can pre-plan a return time for up to three participating attractions (subject to availability), selecting up to one experience from Group 1 and the remaining experiences from Group 2 (see below for a full breakdown of the attraction groups). Throughout the day of your visit, once a selection has been redeemed, a new one can then be booked from any group.
Your three pre-planned attractions must all be at the same Theme Park, but with Park Hopper benefits you can select experiences from any park once your first one has been redeemed!
When you purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you’ll have access to all of the below:
- Lightning Lane Entrances at attractions suitable for everyone - Lightning Lanes aren’t just for the big roller coasters! While these are definitely included, family-favourites like Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Toy Story Mania, Disney classics like Haunted Mansion and Kilimanjaro Safaris, and even the newest attractions like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run are also available to book.
- Character Meet and Greets - There are Lightning Lane entrances for meeting your favourite Disney Characters too, including Cinderella and a Visiting Princess or Princess Tiana and a visiting Princess at Princess Fairytale Hall, Mickey Mouse at Town Square Theater, or Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight.
- Exclusive Disney PhotoPass camera lenses for your mobile device - Unlock a special collections of Disney-themed lenses that turn your mobile device into a magical camera with cool augmented reality features.
- Listen to Audio Tales - Discover the parks in cool new ways through fascinating fun facts, insider tips, and behind-the-scenes insights during your visit.
