ATD forms Charitable Foundation
Attraction ticket specialist ATD Travel Services (parent company of Attraction Tickets Direct) has established its own charitable trust, The ATD Foundation www.atd-foundation.org
The company has been supporting charity projects in Zambia since 2009 - initially working with Just a Drop to help fund a borehole and school house building in the remote village of Kalundu. Since then, it has funded 35 projects in 18 Zambian schools, helping more than 3,000 children get access to clean water, adequate sanitation and a quality education.
The ATD Foundation has been created to provide a more structured way of allocating funds to partner charities aligned to its objectives of supporting water, sanitation, education and football projects.
Charities currently supported by the foundation include Just a Drop, African Revival, The Butterfly Tree and the Livingstone Youth Football Academy (LYFA).
The LYFA is a Zambian charity that ATD helped to establish and continues to support and work closely with. It provides sporting opportunities for aspiring footballers in villages and schools in southern Zambia. The charity has a professional team in the Zambian 2nd division, two youth teams, and an under 17’s girls’ team. Monthly grants from the ATD Foundation help to provide transportation, salaries, equipment plus nutrition and education for all its players.
The foundation is funded by ATD Travel Services and donations raised by ATD staff members, both individually and as teams. ATD Staff visit Zambia annually to see the progress of the projects, raise awareness and identify new projects to support.
The foundation has already raised over £300k in its first two months. It plans to expand its fundraising by organising excursions for tourists in the Victoria Falls area, to see local schools and attend football matches or training sessions at The Livingstone Youth Football Academy. The tours will be organised and escorted by women in the local community whose children have been helped by The ATD Foundation.
