Our guide to Barcelona Gracia, Tapas and Gaudi

Located just a short distance from the bustling city centre of Barcelona, Gràcia is the perfect place to experience the heart of the city, known for its bohemian atmosphere, cozy squares, artisan shops, and diverse gastronomy. Marvel at the architectural genius of Gaudí as you explore his Casa Vicens and Casa Milà from the outside, learning about his life and ground-breaking work. Visit a bustling local food market and local eateries as you savour traditional Catalan tapas, sweets, and drinks while hearing the fascinating stories behind the flavours and traditions. Dive into Catalan folklore, culture, and the stunning modernist architecture that defines this unique neighbourhood. This is a feast for foodies and art lovers alike!

Meet your tour guide and small group outside Casa Vicens in the heart of the Gràcia neighbourhood. Marvel at the colourful modernist building designed by Antoni Gaudí—his first of many—who would later design the Sagrada Família and more.

Then, start your morning at a Gràcia neighbourhood favourite for a delicious local pastry. This third-generation family-run pastry shop has been open since 1916.

The next stop on your Gràcia food tour is a traditional bodega that’s been a staple of the local community since 1939. You’ll be transported to a bygone era of Barcelona from the moment you step through its doors. Enjoy classic Catalan breakfast dishes and sip a glass of vermouth while learning about the unique way of drinking wine in Catalonia.

It's a short walk to one of Gràcia's picturesque squares where you'll see Sant Joan de Gràcia church and your guide will explain its ties to Gaudí. After gaining an understanding of the neighbourhood's history, we'll visit a small bakery that represents the fascinating blend of cultures within Gràcia. Mustafa's Syrian pastry shop is a cherished local establishment for good reason—the smell of freshly baked goods will make your mouth water as soon as you step through the door. You'll pick up one of his decadent homemade pastries to-go and enjoy it later on the tour.

From there, on your stroll to the next tasting stop, discover more modernist architecture and learn about Catalonia's independence movement. Pop into this 150-year-old dried fruits and nut shop for a snack to taste their specialty.

Next, be transported by the colours, sounds, and aromas in the historic and lively Mercat de la Llibertat. Another beautiful example of modernist architecture, you'll stop at a market stall for a typical aperitivo with a refreshing glass of cava. Then, at your last stop, settle in for a delicious homemade lunch, including a selection of typical Catalan tapas with your choice of wine or beer.

Following your tapas lunch, you'll enjoy the walk down the Passeig de Gràcia, a high-end shopping street, to your final stop past a refurbished modernist mansion that is now a 5-star hotel. Farther down the Passeig de Gràcia, you'll reach the impressive Casa Milà designed by Gaudí and learn more about the trajectory of Gaudí's career. To wrap up, enjoy your sweet treat from Mustafa's Syrian pastry shop while your guide explains the influence of Arab culture on desserts in Spain.
